Thanks for visiting our blog! Stacking Books is our effort to bring the BEST in children’s literature to parents, teachers, caretakers or anyone passionate about children’s literature.
At Stacking Books we believe that reading is a fundamental skill. Reading is also important as a source of inspiration, learning and joy.
So if you are here to find a great read, then here is what you will find. Books are categorized as Fiction, Non-Fiction, Audio-books and Poetry. You can also look up books by age.
Under Fiction, we have reviews on books that will make you smile and giggle, laugh and cry and sometimes make you want to break out into a dance!
Under Non Fiction, we have reviews on books on nature, science, math, geography and biographies. Non Fiction is increasingly becoming a popular genre in school reading programs as per ASCD. This article published by ASCD asserts that reading Non Fiction or Informational texts along with Fiction is critical to reading fluency.
Under Poetry, we have some wonderful poems that encourage thinking about feelings and ideas expressed in a compact form. Sound and rhythm engages the child and increases phonic awareness. Skillful use of language introduces new vocabulary and concepts. Ultimately, we believe, poetry adds a culture to our reading beyond what the other formats of reading have to offer.
Under Audio-books, we have reviews about some fantastic books on tape/CD. Listening to audio books has benefits such as critical listening skills, increased focus, increased vocabulary, introduce reading far above a child’s current reading level, introduce new genres and provide a great read-aloud model. Audio books have a wider appeal across children of different age groups too! And they are screen free! Now you know why we love Audio books! Listen to them on long drives and short ones too.
We strongly believe that our reviews would excite you, motivate you to dash off and find a book at once!
A number of us are involved in creating this blog. Rex helps keep the website running. Sushmitha helps review the books on this blog. Andrea, our creative consultant, helps design the artwork for the blog. This blog is our attempt to help you, parents and friends, to motivate and inspire your child to read. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as we did. As Dr. Seuss would say, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” (I Can Read with My Eyes Shut, Dr.Seuss)
